Brilliant, Bright & Bountiful Beets

Namaste Yogis… After Alvin’s Handstand Workshop in the canyon last Saturday, we all ended up back at our patio sipping on herbal teas and Beet Kvass. I pulled out a jar from the fridge to share because of its ability to support circulation and hydration to the body.  I feel that the consistency of consuming this Earthly beverage has provided my own body with natures rich supply of electrolytes and probiotics.  I also love its ability to cleanse, hydrate, energize and restore my body after a workout or eating something that does not resonate with my sense of well being.

So here we go! Below is some information for you to get started on your very own batch.

BRILLIANT, BRIGHT & BOUNTIFUL BEETS

Beet Kvass is an old Ukrainian tonic that has been passed down for many generations to today. Another thrive formula that the body just craves and loves!

It has been said that this probiotic tonic is valuable for its medicinal qualities and as a digestive aid. Beets are fully loaded with nutrients. Most recipes will suggest that consuming one 4-ounce glass, morning and night, acts as an excellent blood tonic, promotes regularity, aids digestion, alkalizes the blood, cleanses the liver and is a good treatment for kidney stones and other ailments. The health benefits of lacto-fermented food are undeniable. As chopped beets mix with sea salt, the sugar and starch convert to lactic-acid perfectly preserving the kvass. The finished drink is full of beneficial enzymes, friendly probiotic bacteria, and increased vitamin levels. Regularly eating lacto-fermented vegetables, or incorporating beet kvass into your diet, will promote healthy gut flora, and greater absorption of nutrients from your food, not to mention increased energy.

BEET KVASS RECIPE

  • 2 small Organic Beets
  • 4 teaspoons of mineral rich himalayan or celtic sea salt
  • Purified water
  • Mason jar
  • Slice of Raw Ginger
  • Slice of Lemon Rind (Optional)

Prepare your tonic by adding the ingredients listed above and cover in the dark for 3 days or as soon as you see bubbles form at the top of the jar, then transfer to fridge to preserve. Ready to drink once your jar appears rich dark and red!
